Caught UP on the weekend
What's up party people!?! So I ventured out Saturday night, hoping to have a lil' fun at this infamous Brooklyn rooftop party in DUMBO.
I met up with my friends and we went in around 11pm.
The roof started to quickly fill and there was a lot of eye candy for both the ladies and gents...although my friends and I felt like some of the guys were maaaad shy/bourgie or just corny.
But nonetheless it was cool and we were having a good time until......Po Po showed up and shut that ish down!!!! Flashing lights took on a whole 'nother meaning.
The let out...ahem kick out! er'body slowly exited the roof and stood outside the apartment building chilling, tryna see what their next stop would be.
Peep the police car? I'm still tryna figure out exactly why it ended.
My friend Shanay and I, sad we only got our party on for 2 hours!
Ahhh well, made me feel like I was back in college. Yall know 5-0 always came in and busted up the Black parties!

I love your blog and how you cover more down to earth NYC events...
Thanks so much!!! Don't be a stranger!
Thembi:
I live at 260 water street.
The party was halted as no one involved with the event lives in the building. So the building was taken over. This is an illegal event. The police were also called, as there was serious concern on how much weight/bodies the roof could actually hold.
People were everywhere in the building, knocking on doors..Asking to use the bathroom. That was a lot of fun for single ladies that live alone and families with babies. And because you all would not leave.. A party where you had no connection to anyone in the building.. The sirens by the police became necessary. That was rough on everyone.
So in a day when we lock our doors to keep people out who have no connections to any tenants...we have 250 + strangers in our house. And the topper......no one had the decency to clean up!
Can you think of this happening in your building? Or your house, or your parents home? It's a home invasion. Were not in high school, or university... It looked like most people at the party were all young professionals.... there was little damage, no fights.. But the fact that everyone was not invited.... that’s not the expected behavior of professionals. Seems there is still a lot of growing up to do.
Tracy Coleman, the host who sent out the evite, may at one time been hooking up with someone in the building, but she is not a legal tenant and has no rights to throw a party at this building. Her thoughtless act has upset all the people here and put you and your friends in danger from a roof collapse. She has been contacted numerous times to make thinks right .. Simply by taking responsibility for her actions and clean the roof.
She has chosen to be silent, another so called young professional with no backbone. By the way that is called a Paper Pro! Looks good on paper, can't stand up in the real world! And now because of Tracy’s actions your reputation is damaged as well.
So at this time we are perusing all legal options against her with the police and HR of her professional job at Olgivy.
Its sad that it’s come this far and many people have to spend effort on this.
Damn I love a good party, crazier the better. But not when it harms others.
Just wanted to let you know the whole story. Thank You
I hope you're not the person who organized this party. I'm all for a party, but please don't come back to Vinegar Hill for this kind of thing again. You guys drove the whole neighborhood crazy for hours -- and I live several blocks away from 206 Water Street.
What does "tryna" mean? I find it hard to believe you went to college considering you can't even speak English.
yeah, great job representing young black people. You're real cool, a class act!!! Breaking and entering, disturbing families with young children, leavng garbage all over another person'a property! You're an idiot and tracy Coleman will be lucky if she still has a job when all is said and done.
To the jerks who are leaving nasty comments for this blogger: I went to this party too and had NO IDEA that the girl who organized it didn't live there. So basically we are being chastised because we attended a party we were invited to on a warm summer night? Tsk, tsk... how dare we!!! And to the person who had the nerve to say "great job on representing young black people", I say thank you very much... because I am very proud about how I represent young black people. I'm accomplished, beautiful, hard working, and occassionally I like to enjoy a summer night at a rooftop party. But, most of all, I am not judgemental and will not generalize everyone that lives in vinegar hill/dumbo as uptight and uninformed as 'Anonymous 11:35AM'.
On behalf of all those who innocently attended the party and unintentionally disturbed your families, I do apologize. Now how is that for a class act?
Peace.
ok well how about pickingup the garbage all of you 'classy' people 'innocently' left all over our roof, hallways... the trail of garbage leading all the way to the F train!
Just want to say I'm sorry for other peoples rude comments. I believe that most people probably didn't know the situtation when they went to the party.
Personally I would be very angry that I was invited to a party where everyone thought the host lived in the building and then it was proved to be otherwise.
It would be a great help if you and your friends got in touch with Tracy Coleman... work number at Ogilvy 212.237.4000 and let her know what a stupid thoughtless act this was, and to not clean up afterwards was not a class act! Her actions are responsible for people assuming that you and your friends are like Tracy. I believe your not and I hope this to be true.
Tracy is a true coward. The people at 260 wanted her to just step up and clean up. Only when she is now being hit with Police charges has she even been in touch. She chooses to have her friends call, she doesn't have the courage to pick up the phone herself. What a shame. If she would have just cleaned up right away none of this would have continued.
I hope some way she will learn a lesson from this and have a change of heart in how she treats others the rest of her life.
That is crazy, I had no idea about this Tracy character and how her thoughtlessness wreaked havoc on the neighborhood. Once again, I was only an innocent, party goer who did not leave any trash, act inappropriately or mean any harm.
You better believe I will never attend another party at 260 Water street!
