So many of you know one of my BFF's from waaaay back is none other tahn budding raptress Nicki Minaj. To say she is on the verge of something amazing would be an understatement. In a time where the story of the quitessential female rapper is downright tragic, Nicki is poised to bless us with an awakening. For every girl that grew up in the 90's and misses the hardcore, sexually empowering, edgy femme fatale spirit of shero's like Lil' Kim, Foxy, Queen Latifah, L- Boogie and even Eve- get ready for the reinvention of the lyrical lush who can tear down her male counterparts without breaking a nail.

But progressive rap enthusiasts, don't fret. Nicki will not "fill the void" instead she will refresh and and reinvent what it is to be a female MC and rap impresario. Her skills are unorthodox and her approach can be described as unique and witty laced of course with sexy innuendos and an overpowering confidence.

I went out to Passaic, NJ for a show she did with Funk Master Flex last week and let me just say...it was sheer pandemonium!!! I mean these kids were Minaj Maniacs!! By the time I arrived, the line out side was was spilling out onto the street. 5-0 was on the scene surveying the madness and trying to keep the peace. Someone was brought out on a stretcher and looked unconscious before the show even got started. Once she arrived we all met up and went in through the back entrance.

When she got on stage, the girls in the front row went insane. They knew every word to her songs and were pushing their way through security to get on stage for her now famous "boob signing" that she does at every show. Flex was on hand to drop some bombs and lend support, plus 106 and Park's Terrance J and Teirra Marie came through to show love.

In all it was a craaaaaazy night and a look at what's to come. Nicki is a superstar!!! I am so proud to call her a friend and all I can say is for all you non-believers and haters you better jump on the band wagon now 'cause she's about to blow!!!

I Didn't Know My Own Strength

But I'm so glad you found it Whit!!!! Yaaaaaass, Ms. Whitney served it up for the kids. Looking fresh faced and fabulous, the icon sat down with The Big O for a two part interview. It was touching, enlightening and inspirational to say the least. I had a conversation with friends the other day and tried to explain that I identify with women that are honest about their struggles and don't try to mask their flaws or true character. That is Whitney. She really made me proud. Sitting there composed and at peace with who she is, she bared her soul practically and told Oprah and the world what has been going on in her life for the past 7 years.

Bobbay!!! Is a lowdown dirty dog- we knew that.But seriously let's keep it real. Whit was no angel. People assumed she was this prudish, square who was innocently caught in his web of deceit. But those of us who know how real Jersey girls get down-(especially the ones from Newark and East Orange) that Whitney had an edge to her. BUT the problem is, once he and got with her everything she probably did in moderation and handled functionally blew all the way up!!! How many of you know women that smoke a lil' weed and toss back a few just to let their hair down but when they get with the love of their life, before you know it he has them on dope, stealing the silverware and TV's out of their mama's house. Taking it to the NEXT level and spiraling out of control. Whatever depression, anger and issues he was dealing with, she made her own and allowed him to bring her down with him.
I'm totally not trying to place the blame on him but as a husband he should've uplifted and supported her.

In any case I'm so glad she is back, but am I the only one who feels that I Didn't Know My Own Strength song is a lil sappy and blah...I love Million Dollar Bill though!
It's funny cause at one point Whitney said she never knew what an icon was and never saw herself as the huge figure she had really come to be. I was talking with a friend and said it must've been incredible for someone like her who looked up to Aretha Franklin as the biggest superstar in R & B and then she came right along and broke even more boundaries and took the idea of a pop icon to the next level.
And now we have Beyonce who it seems can't get any bigger-or can she. Do you think someone can come along and pick up wherever Beyonce leaves off and become even bigger. Huge question is will Bey ever sit down long enough for someone to take the reigns....
It is interesting to think about. That Whitney interview reminded me of childhood and how I used to love music as a little girl. Thanks for the memories Diva!!!
Can't wait to see the comeback kid bask in all her glory and take the world by storm again.

I Blame Amber

We'll not really. But she most definitely can be attributed to the Don's downfall. I mean what purpose does she serve-really? Yes I KNOW I have no idea about the ins and outs of their relationship and what she "brings" to the table besides good looks. But my thing is Ye dumped Brooke for making him look bad. By her popping off on that infamous Myspace page at the Lipstick Alley girls, she made herself look bad, thus making Kanye look like a fool for dealing with a childish, silly girl. I could see how he went from her to Alexis- a more mature, refined, laid back woman who seemed to mellow him out and be a good balance in his life as his career was steadily taking off.

But this Amber Rose chick.. I mean honestly. I'm not judging her stripping past cause I know alot of solid women that have gone down that route. But when I heard her interview on Shade 45 I was so disappointed. She sounded like a bird!!! She wasn't well spoken, made no profound statements and didn't impress me at all. I found it hard to understand what a person as complex, intelligent, well rounded and gifted as Ye could see in her. That's when my love for him started to wane. Could it be that Ye was guilty like many other men of being lost in the world of money, clothes and hoes and could care less about the statement he was truly making to young Black men in America by his choices?

Let's keep it real, when you really examine the situation, his women have gotten lighter and more exotic looking the further he's gotten into his career. A typical move that many Black men make to solidify their status in society... " All the wavy, lightskinned girls is loving me now..."

Fast forward to Sunday night. I'm no fool. I'm not one of those fans that have blind love and devotion to artists and can't admit their shortcomings and faults. So I knew that all his outbursts were really because he does harbor some insecurities, fears and issues that are masked in arrogance and "swag". But from the start I knew something wasn't right. Walking down the carpet with that big ass bottle of Henny, letting random folks take a swig? Then of course Amber's outfit...I'm sorry but a real fashion enthusiast and proud bf would not let his lady wonder around in that atrocious get up! Shit was trashy-period! Grabbing her ass on the carpet, making out in front of the cameras...it was a mess and spectacle.

Then he went on stage and stole that poor YT girl's moment...DAMN!!! I had people texting and calling me up wanting to know how I was gonna possibly try to defend that. I couldn't...

Last night, Ye revealed his demons to us a bit. Leno asked what his mama woulda thought about that and it seemed as if he had a moment. It was painful to watch. Man! Cindy wasn't lying when she said Money changes everything!!!

In the past 6 years Ye went from being that college drop out that articulated the dichotomy of loving jewels and expensive clothes while understanding how that affinity handicaps us all especially Black folks to an arrogant, obnoxious, angry dare I say it..."celebrity".

All I can say is he aplogized and I hope he does exactly what he says and takes a break to grieve and reflect...

Hello Lovelies,
I know, I know...Ya'll ready to cut a bish for playing disappearing acts. It has been waaaaay too long but I've been working and grinding and building to make life better. What can I say??? Anywho I'm back on the scene crispy and clean and have lots to discuss.

LAST NIGHT...

So I went to this screening of Passing Strange, which was originally a musical that was developed at Sundance in '04 and '05. Then it was picked up as an off-Broadway and eventually Broadway play. The musical caught the attention of Spike Lee who fell in love with it and filmed that last two performances, added some cinematic touches to it and wha-la. It became a film that he ultimately is credited with directing.

So the National Black Theatre on 125th street held a screening of it last night and it was really a great story and play....now I'm about to tell you why I'm mad! See sometimes you can't really Eff with Black folks 'cause they pull out everything but the kitchen sink on you. I get there at about 5 to 7pm, (it was supposed to start at 7pm). There was a gov't cheese line outside the doors which I HATE. If anyone knows me they know I don't do lines... So they start letting us in a few minutes after 7pm. We file in and go upstairs to the theatre which is basically a hot ass room with a screen and a stage. They talking 'bout the air conditioner was broken and it was just fixed that day...coulda fooled me.

So my friend met me inside and we sat and waited for about ohhh ummm another 15, 20 minutes. Finally someone takes the stage and starts welcoming us, making announcements and shit. After about another 10 minutes or so they let us know they have a performer for us. At this point I'm like oh hell naw!!! All I wanted to do was see the movie! So this uber Afro-centric chick takes the stage with an electric guitar and two band mates and proceeds to sing not one, not two but FOUR LOOOOOOONG ASS songs. The type of songs that you listen to in the winter when you're depressed and have PMS or something. Not the kind you wanna hear while sitting in a hot ass theatre on wooden seats, with hopes of having a girlfriend catch-up dinner afterwards.

So finally the film started...sometime around 8 freakin 30. Even though I was thoroughly enjoying the content, by the time 10pm came around I told my girl they got about 10 more minutes and then I gotta bounce. My ass was hurting, sweat was dripping off of us and we were hungry.

Afterwards we had plans of going to Melba's and grabbing a late dinner but when we arrived they were having some kind of jam session in that piece so we went across the street to Society Coffee and enjoyed some tasty sandwiches. I highly recommend the Chicken club (they use turkey bacon- heeeeeey!!!!)

The moral of the story is, I understand that when attending indie/underground artistic events it's important to plug other artists, movements and initiatives but my time is precious and ol' girl with the guitar messed up the night. Couldn't they just have had her sing maybe one short song and passed out flyers about her, maybe set up a table outside for her to sell CD's? I mean she was cool and all but sitting through the songs became brutal and to keep it real I ain't sign up for that.
I couldn't remember what her name was so I asked my friend and she replied " God awful crazy chick"...but she finally remembered.

Whew, what a month!!!! Amongst my many strides and hard work recently to be a media mogul I was given some much needed motivation and inspiration by my new hero Barack. How proud are we, how inspired are we, how hopeful are we? Even though the election is over I still can;t keep my TV off the 24-hour news channels. I am addicted. I can't stop listening and watching. Things will never be the same again, we have entered a new era of politics and I think B has some tricks up his sleeve that will finally allow this country to step into the future and take on a more progressive and revolutionary approach to politics.

Celebs are coming out in full force this election. I think this is the first time I've seen so many campaigns, PSAs, viral promotions, etc. all celeb heavy and all targeted towards either voter registration or a particular candidate. I love it. Hollywood should always have a voice on issues and concerns that affect their fans and our country. Peep this video of celebs telling folks...DON'T VOTE...unless they care!

I know, I know! Been missing in action but I promise it's for a good reason! So anyhoo, I'm at work and my TV is on VH1 Soul and I hear an angel's voice...OK not really but it's MJB. I turn around and I see a brand new (I'm assuming) GM commercial that takes a look at all of her past styles and trends and has different versions of her in the car.
I love it!!!! What a cute idea! Kudos to you Chevy. They are making me actually consider buying an American car....

And since I am such a loser, I haven't seen Miracle at St. Ana's yet but it's def on my to-do list. But I do have something for the ladies...

Now I must admit, I have a few guilty pleasures and cheesy reality TV is one of them. Specifically the shows on VH1 and some on MTV , really have me cackling like a damn fool. Of course, after getting way too invested in these catastrophes I become fans of a few of the personalities. Chance and Real are definitely some of my favs since they have not a lick of sense and literally perform when those damn cameras turn on. BUT.......

This I cannot and will not stand for! What in the Halloween-fake-ass-Dru-Hill-zesty-looking mess is going on here!?!?!?!

Stallionaires need to catch a clue and understand that this look basically confirms that no one will EVER buy their music, support their permed out movement or just plain give them the time of day!

But you better believe I will be tuning in to their VH1 reality show, "A Real Chance at Love"...sue me!! I can't help it! Ya'll know this has the potential to have some classic moments!

So one of my favorite awards shows is coming back around, yes the VH1 Hip Hop Honors!
I love this show because I'm a big fan of the ol' school and believe in paying homage and tribute to the trailblazers of this musical genre called Hip Hop. It's because of them that the masses have come to love and appreciate this artform. This year we will be saluting the United States of Hip Hop and one my favorites, Tracy Morgan, is baaaaaaaaack! I luuub him!

This year's honorees are Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Naughty by Nature, Slick Rick and...Too Short- yeah I coulda did without that one.

Also VH1's Save the Music has once again created an opportunity around this show to raise money for it's cause:

Hey Honies,
Whew, VMA weekend is over, I made it through with lots of stories to tell of course!

In short my experience was filled with a bunch of crazy people, C list celeb shananigans and foolishness.

First off, I was at the Official VMA kickoff party hosted by Jermaine Dupri and his new label TAG records. His new artist Q da Kid performed ( side bar- make sure to check out Q's show on Sept 19th on MTV as he introduces himself to the world) and so did John Jones, b.k.a Fabolous.

Please someone explain to me why Bow Wow is a short little fool! He came into the VIP section with like 50-leven fake ass goons acting a fool. When security started arguing with him I went over to see what was wrong (part of my j-o-b that night), Security told me he wanted them to stop smoking and get their feet off the couch. Bow Weezie turns to me and says..."We'll stop smoking but we ain't taking our feet off the couch, if they get f---d up I'll buy new ones..." Really? I mean...really, I had no idea his corn factor was so high! Wait...yes I did...

I looked to my left and was hit with yet another bowl of corn syrup...riddle me this Batman, why is a woman Melyssa Ford's age sitting at a party in Bow Wow's section? I mean ain't you like 30 something? Aren't there suckahs your own age to snuggle up next to?

Don't fret my pets, the Simmons sisters were right there chilling in that same area, I didn't see much but I'm sure Bow and Angela are still kicking it.

The party was pretty cool and I had a good time. I'll have more recaps for you later, but in the mean time check out some photos of me at the post party!

Umm can I share a horrible story with ya'll? So I'm at the party with my girl Ginger and my baby Daddy is about to perform. So we see our friend holding down a good spot so we run over to get next to her. We say excuse me and try to make our way to her through this crowd of country, red neck ass fools. They start getting upset calling us cunts, mad that we were going to be standing in front of them. So we're standing there going back and forth with them, telling them to fall back and get over it. As we're wacthing the show, we had no idea they were standing behind us...are you ready....pouring red wine down the backs of our dresses!!!!! As you can see I have on an all white dress! Soooooo...once I found out, I proceeded to walk around that entire party looking for the B!tch. If I found her...I was going to beat her ass!!!! The Lord didn't want me to go to jail that night so He didn't let me stumble up on her. But please believe, it took me a good hour to calm down.

Caught Up on the Weekend

So this weekend was great! It was somewhat bittersweet. I hate that once Labor Day rolls around it seems to mark the end of the summer, but I enjoyed the nice weather and extra day off nonetheless.

So Sunday I attempted yet another rooftop shindig. But in this case it was thrown by a very good friend of mine and was fabulously low key compared to last weekend and most importantly Po Po free!

Caught Out There...

Hello Lovelies,
Hope you enjoyed this change filled week! The DNC was amazing, so many great speeches, performances and messages. Last night Barack was absolutely magnificent. He touched upon every topic he's been challenged on and more, including foreign policy, energy, terrorism and healthcare.

Now despite the picture perfect and very positive experience this was, there was of course a very minor rough spot. A Fox news camera man and reporter were forced out of the DNC by protesters for obvious reasons.

In related news, it was just announced McCain has chosen Sarah Palin for his VP running mate. Hmmmmm I see he's trying to get some of those Hillary votes...but I am confident that they'll see right through his tactics. Hillary and her family got up and told everybody to get with the program, so now it's time for them to put their ballot where their mouth is!
But I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit worried. She has age, gender and appeal on her side. The Alaskan governor is 44 and has....five children. Hmmm let's get all our ducks in a row peeps. I think that road trip to Philly to rally votes is a definite for me now....who's rolling out with me?

And it wouldn't be right if I didn't take a moment to G-Check some of my "lovely" readers. Now I have had a few comments placed on my post about the party I attended last weekend. Please let me break it down so it can forever be broke...I got an invite, I went to the party, and when the police broke it up I left. That is all, I, like the 100's of other people who attended have nothing to do with organizing it and could care less about it. It was but a blip on my radar.
ALSO for the smart ass that tried to attack my intelligence because I use words they can't understand...go sit on a tack! If your wackness doesn't afford you the privilege of understanding my lingo then simply ask and as the banner at the top of the page says...I will put you on...

When she started talking about the underground railroad and how slaves had to watch out for dogs and hunt men but still keep going to find freedom, I was truly touched. Hill is also expected to release her Michigan and Florida delegates to Obama. She made it clear that the Clinton camp expects it's supporters to fully and whole heartedly stand with Obama and the entire Democratic party.

Did Michelle wow us or what? Now that's what I call first lady material. So genuine, graceful, eloquent, beautiful and powerful. Her story is one of hard work, triumph, dedication and understanding of the heart and soul of real life heroes who are everyday people like her mother and father.

How can you not be proud to be a Black woman, or just an American citizen? She was stunning. And didn't ya'll get a kick out of Barack telling her she looked cute? Loved it!!!!!

Biden is a great choice, he's strong, doesn't mince words and has a great foreign policy background. I like him! We all know that Barack can't get too aggresive or harsh in his delivery since angry Black man doesn't translate well to mainstream America.

What's up party people!?! So I ventured out Saturday night, hoping to have a lil' fun at this infamous Brooklyn rooftop party in DUMBO. I met up with my friends and we went in around 11pm. The roof started to quickly fill and there was a lot of eye candy for both the ladies and gents...although my friends and I felt like some of the guys were maaaad shy/bourgie or just corny.
But nonetheless it was cool and we were having a good time until......Po Po showed up and shut that ish down!!!! Flashing lights took on a whole 'nother meaning.
The let out...ahem kick out! er'body slowly exited the roof and stood outside the apartment building chilling, tryna see what their next stop would be.

Peep the police car? I'm still tryna figure out exactly why it ended.

So yesterday I went to an event thrown by my Friend Diallo Shabazz' roommate, DonAngelo Bivens. It was to celebrate the launch of his brand new staffing and consultant agency, SOMO.

The event took place in Head over Heels, a fairly new shoe treasure chest in Harlem on 124th and St. Nicholas Ave. This is the owner, Dane Higgins, clownin'. Stop y and take a peak, there were def some hot items on the shelves!

Now everyone knows I have my fair share of peeps I stan for, but many of you may not know one of them is Angelina Jolie. I've always loved her. From her unconventional beauty, to her free spirit, to her talent and of course her humanitarian efforts...I really dig this chick.

Not to mention when I worked in this hick ass town Home Depot,in college, everyone always told me I resembled her...yes I reveled in it every chance I got! I see you. Hi haters!

So anyway I know many people have issues with her for whatever reasons. Some people still harp on the whole home wrecker thing...puhlease. Some people aren't impressed with her UN position and some people don't like that she has started a trend of YT folks wanting to adopt colored babies from third world countries.

My whole thing is she should be recognized for trying to make a difference. In no way do I see her rainbow coalition of a family as a gimmick, I think she truly has a lot of compassion for underprivileged children around the world.

BUT it seems like Roseanne Bar has some choice words for the actress and her...childrens' father. In a post on her website she absolutely slammed the couple, calling them evil:

In the message, titled Jon Voight in reference to Jolie's actor dad, the writer
fumes, "Your evil spawn Angelina Jolie and her vacuous hubby Brad Pitt make
about $40million a year in violent, psychopathic movies and give away three of
it to starving children, trying to look as if they give a crap about humanity as
they spit out more dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck
the earth even more."

She goes on further to say:

"Miss Jolie says she likes John McCain too and hasn't decided who to endorse...
Huh? Aren't you supposed to be somewhat enlightened, or do you not know that the
African daughter you hold in every picture had parents who suffered and died
because of the Republican Party's worldwide economic assault on Africa over the
last few decades since Reagan?"

Hmmm, first off I had no idea Roseanne was so politically and socially conscious considering her horrible rendition of the National Anthem and her character portrayal in her sitcom as...well... poor White trash.

I have to do some research on Angelina and her support of McCain. I'll have to see about that. But Roseanna was out of line saying they only give their millions to their children. Angelina does a tremendous amount of work in other countries, championing human rights for women and bringing attention to children whose lives are crushed by violence and neglect.

Angelina always makes me think of the late great Josephine Baker...now hold on!

I know some of you are twisting in your seats-mad I am trying to make some type of connection to a woman who made Black history and whose art and vision was uplifting to a modern day white woman that oozes sexuality and tends to be ridiculed because of the odd choices she makes.

But in my opinion there is a connection. Both women made bold choices in their careers- Baker danced topless and well...where do we start with Angelina? Nothing about her performances are safe.

And they both had an immense desire to give love to the world's forgotten children. I think Angelina and Josephine share the same spirit and they both deeply inspire me.

So here is my question: How do you feel about Brad and Angelina adopting so many children, especially a black child? I mean I think it's beautiful noty to mention they sell the pics and give the money to worthy causes. It doesn't get any better than that. I luuub them and for the record, I'm glad she's with Brad...that superficial, ordinary Jennifer Anniston didn't deserve him anyway. He's changing the world, couldn't have done that with her silly ass. Yeah I said it!

How was the weekend? I see a bunch of parties went down...blah blah blah. But onto the reeeeeeeally good stuff.

I'm sorry but this story is still cooking my grits. First Lady keep ya head up!

It made me start to think about what you do when your man cheats. Even more, what do you do when your man has maaad cash, crazy status and introduced you to the lifestyle you are currently living? I know it is hard to stay but hard to walk away from.
So I started to think about some other women that are in this club that may fall victim to a man's need to take a dip into something new.

To quote the late great Biggie..." You was a reebok vandal now you wear Chanel sandals, I made you why would I play you?"

We'll that's easy to answer- simply 'cause he can. To quote Boom Boom Kat " There's a lot of kittens ready to lick that milk!"

Here are a few peeps I think should be on the watch list...

Pilar was smart about hers, the more kids you push out the better your chances are in staying together. Not because of the love of a big family but because he will think twice about shelling out child support and alimony when you got Wu Tang Clan in the house.

Glad to here Shaunie and Shaq are rekindling. I really love them as a couple. But if Shaunie did actually have a private stash, I'm not mad at her. When your hubbie is the bread winner you should always be thinking about a side hustle and/or putting some to the side for a rainy day...or when he decides to permanently make it rain on some hoe!

OK I know I'm going to hell for this one but I couldn't resist. Krucial...I'ma need you to keep standing by Alicia, don't let Swizzy ruff ride ya boo right outta your arms!

In any case I think women need to make sure that if they hit pay dirt and snag a baller, they should remain humble, smart and alert because money does change things regardless to what anyone says. Sometimes love loses its value when your living life in a fairytale where any and everything is possible because you have the means to make it happen.
I think staying together is hard for any couple but especially when your rich and famous. I would think twice about being with a bball player or a musician if I was still in the same position as I am now. If things went wrong, I wouldn't want my lifestyle to change just because my address did.

Hi Lovelies,
Can you love your imperfect body? I mean truly like what you see in the mirror? When I say imperfect I mean by general, mainstream standards- a lil extra belly bulge or muffin top, ham hock thighs, jiggly arms-you know the elements that make up the majority of women out there. I mean I for one am very image conscious and always strive for damn near perfection. I want tight abs, toned arms and legs and a butt that doesn't make me look like a have a long back. Am I wrong for that? Am I asking for way too much?

I have to admit it irks me a bit when "thick" sistahs that could definitely use a work out plan try to talk that ol' "I love my curves, I love being thick" business. 'Cause do you really? I find that hard to believe. Maybe you do most of the times, but when it's beach season and you have to bypass the bikini section, or when it's time to put on a sexy gown and spanx is not only your best friend but your savior, I'm sure you wish you would've got on that treadmill to shed a few of those "curves" you love.

My point is I think women need to learn how to keep it real with themselves. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I think EVERY woman wants to look good in a bathing suit. I think every woman wants to have a celebrity-TV-camera-ready body. And guess what if you don't...I know most men would prefer it.

Sure some men talk that "I like thick girls with meat on their bones" mess, but they mean more Beyonce-less Queen Latifah- I promise you! These young, Black men, know they are in high demand and they have options. Which means if you'd rather eat that cheeseburger-fine! 'Cause the sistah who's doing squats is coming for ya man!

I'm just saying, let's be real with ourselves and realize that "thick" has become a nice way to call a Black woman...dare I say it...fat!

You know I had to save the best for last...Kazakhstan...ya'll couldn't find nobody more aesthetically pleasing to march than these beat down broads? Ol' girl in the center has swollen ankles...c'mon people!

I was actually feelin the Ralph Lauren designed 'fits but they didn't seem to be weather friendly, as I spyed a few of the brothas sweatin bullets with them on, but pretty sharp in my opinion.

Heaven I need a hug!!! Lawd knows I do! It seems like whenever we lose people, it happens in bunches, some say three's (let's hope not).

I can't believe Bernie Mac passed away. What devastating news to hear this weekend. Such a young man, with still so much living to do. We were blessed to have been graced with his presence for as long as we did. His comedic genius will live on in our hearts forever. I searched for a while to find what I thought was the best tribute video to Bernie. There were so many good but sad ones and I just feel that for someone that brought us so much joy, he should be remembered in laughter.

What a loss...

Below are some quotes from a few of his friends on remembering him,

Chris Rock: "Bernie Mac was one of the best and funniest comedians to ever live, but that was the second best thing he did. Bernie was one of the greatest friends a person could have. Losing him is like losing 12 people because he absolutely filled up any room he was in. I'm gonna miss the Mac Man."

We also lost music great, Isaac Hayes this this weekend. His cause of death is still unknown. Hayes was an iconic figure of 70's funk and soul. And we all loved him in his role as Chef in South park.
What I didn't know about Hayes was that he was also involved with humanitarian work. In 1995 he established the Isaac Hayes Foundation, which worked to increase literacy. He travelled frequently to Ghana, where he helped to fund a school. He was even made a Ghanaian king with the title Nene Katey Ocansey. In 2005, he married a Ghanaian woman – his fourth marriage. He had 12 children.

Since the opening ceremonies for the Olympics are a day away, I thought it would only be fitting to profile some young, up-and-coming Olympic contenders. According to AOL Black Voices, here are some of the peeps to watch...

Allyson Felix is a track and field star and won a silver medal in the 200 meters at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Standing at 5'6 and 125 lbs, she's a sprinter we should all be on the look out for in Beijing.

Freddy Adu is a soccer phenom and made history in 2004 becoming the youngest American athlete in a century to sign a major league pro contract. He also became the youngest pro athlete to ever school a goal in MLS history. Adu was recently, named to the 18-man squad that will represent the United States in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Tyson Gay (I hope he is not 'cause he's delicious!) had a nasty fall and hamstring injury in the Olympic trials that some thought would kill his chances at competing. Gay's 100-meter performance in Indianapolis is the second-fastest ever time into a headwind, trailing 2000 Olympic gold medalist Maurice Greene. The Kentucky-native became only the second man in history to win titles in the 100-meters, 200-meters and the 4x100-meter relay.

Cullen Jones, an Irvington native, set an American record in the 50-meter freestyle preliminary this morning with a swim of 21.59 seconds. He will also be a fan favorite in Beijing.

I'm definitely going to try and catch a few of the games, and keep my ear close to the ground regarding the event as a whole. There are lots of issues, protests and concerns regarding this years' games.

And let's not forget it was 40 years ago at the 1968 Summer Olympic in Mexico City that Tommie Smith and John Carlos made a statement by bowing their heads and raising their fists while accepting the gold and bronze medals they had one in the 200 meter sprint.

So....Bow Wow is filming sex scenes now? Hmmm, it's still hard for me to see him as a sexual being. Not just b/c of his size and history as a child rapper but now that he's all growned up he still comes off very immature at times. The head swerving, the youtube videos blasting vixens, the temper tantrums and Napoleon complex, I mean... I just can't.

But it seems like the producers of Entourage can. In the upcoming fifth season (can't believe that show has been on that long) Bow Wow will be in a sex scene with a porn star.

When plates cost $165 per person, have some respect and decency and let the bride and groom know if your coming or not by the RSVP date. Like forreal she looks like a regla at The Shadow. For those of you not from NY, that's the club that all the 40 + peeps go to get their freak on. Once they get their SSI or welfare checks they go out to Rainbow and buy an ill-fitting outfit. Then on Thursday night they make sure Shaqualeesha and Tyquan finish their homework, get dressed, call their home girl and then hit the streets ready to dance the night away to the sounds of 80's and early 90's R & B music...yeah that's what she looks like...

Maybe I'm late but when did magazines start suspense trails? I mean on TV they cut promos that leave the viewer guessing what will happen next, in movies sometimes they create trailers that leave you wanting more and anxiously awaiting to see how things unfold, even in music we are often left to guess who'll perform with who or what an artists' single will sound like..but a magazine teasing it's cover artist only to STILL reveal the person before it hits stands? I'm confused and don't get me wrong I love Jigga till the end but they call that a draw? Now I could see if it was Frankie Cole and inside we saw pics from behind the scenes of her reality show. Now that woulda knocked my socks off! MAN DOWN!

Am I a hater? I wanna know, it's sad that this day in age, in time you have a negative thought or opinion on things you're deemed a "hater". But honestly what happened to the days when if you weren't feeling something, you were just seen as someone exercising their right to voice their opinion on something?

I ask this question because after watching the video below, I had to come out and say something that has been on my mind for some time now. Nepotism is alive and well!!! I absolutely loooooooove the Simmons family. Every time I watch their show I become hopeful that one day I can have a family as beautiful, loving and strong as theirs. But one thing that always seems to get me thinking is the many endeavors the Simmons children are pursuing, mainly the girls, Angela and Vanessa.

I love the girls, their style, beauty and fun personalities make them seem so cool to be around and kinda like the "girls next door". BUT you can't help but to think that their successes with the Pastry line, Vanessa's soap opera acting gig plus modeling jobs and Angela's magazine venture are only because they happen to be off spring of hip hop royalty.

I mean c'mon you know damn well even with all the determination and focus in the world it would be nearly impossible for girls this young to achieve that kind of success in such a short amount of time. I'm not mad at their hustle but on the same note, I am a FIRM believer in people paying their dues, learning and struggling and really working hard to find their way. I think it builds character and makes you better at what you do.

This here video only reaffirms my position on why nepotism can sometimes be VERY...annoying.

Seriously WTF is going on here? And yes I still got maaaad love for you Ang...

So as a young, Black professional living in the city, working in entertainment, I have a bunch of friends and associates that I'm constantly surrounded by. Whether I'm at an industry event, party, dinner or just chilling after work at a bar, I typically see the same folk out and about, mingling and mixing.

I have quickly learned that since this world we live in is in fact so small, your relationships tend to overlap. Forget 6 degrees of separation, nowadays I see there are maybe two or three people between you and the next person. For the benefit of networking and gaining new friends that's great news...BUT when it comes to dating, not so much. Finding out you motorboated (copyright Fresh) the same A-hole as your new marketing BFF is not hot! I mean ladies we all know it's hard out here for a pimp (and even harder for these hoes) so finding a decent Black man-that is actually interested in you is hard enough, now we have to make sure he hasn't played hokey pokey with some girl you associate with, see all the time and actually just invited you to her housewarming party.

I can't begin to count how many times one of my girls has been interested in a guy and started dating him only to find out he used to have 'something" going on with so and so. Or they didn't even get a chance to start dating the guy 'cause as soon as they told someone they were feeling him they got hit with " Well girl you know he used to eff with Sonya" I mean damn!
Ladies let me know if this has happened to you and how you dealt with it. I wanna know if there are some gangsta ass chicks that said Eff it, I'ma do me....

So of course, like the proud stan I am, last night I watched the MTV special, Homecoming, featuring the lub of my life, Kanye. It was touching, thought provoking and certainly educational. I always knew America did not treat it's Vets the way it should and this was just another testament to that fact. There is no way people that go and risk their lives for this country should have to come back and struggle to keep afloat. Faced with financial burdens, health issues (both mental and physical) and the task of establishing normalcy after experiencing death and destruction in a foreign land, we should make it easier for them to flourish in this country.

Being the true humanitarian he is....Yeezie hooked up three very deserving veterans with financial help to cover their bills and educational costs and also gave them tickets to come see his RIDICULOUSLY HOT concert in their hometowns.
Gotta love that man!

What's up lovelies! I was so low-key this weekend and I loved every bit of it. I accompanied some co-workers on a shoot for the MTV series, Hood Fab. The celebrity guests were Styles P, Sheek Looch and Dirt Angel, b.k.a. Jim Jones. For those of you that don't know, Hood Fab is a short-form show hosted by, one of the coolest guys I know, Buttaman. He goes out on the street with a celebrity and finds a contestant to compete in a Hip Hop trivia game. Make sure to stay on the lookout for it on MTV Jams. In any case I kept it inside, cleaned my house and had some good ol' peace and quiet. Gotta love it.

Moving on to the 'wood. It seems Halle is not feeling the 'razzi and their fool ass tactics.

Last week, pics of her "out and about" with her daughter Nahla surfaced on the Internet and were featured in In Touch Weekly and Life and Style magazines.

Halle says the paparazzi trespassed on her private property and took pics of them hanging out.

Evan Spiegel, an attorney representing Berry, said a criminal complaint has been filed and an investigation is under way. He said there are witnesses who saw the photographers in the middle of a "very blatant and invasive trespass."

Berry says she has no intentions of selling pictures of her baby or exposing her to the public.

"I have long since come to terms with the fact that choosing a career as an actress has made me a public figure, but my baby has made no such choice, and unless and until she does, I will do everything I can ... to keep her out of the public eye," the statement read.

I totally feel her....but er um ah...I wouldn't mind getting broke off a cool 4 million for at least one of my cutie pies. I'm just sayin'.

One of my absolute favorite up-and-coming actors, Tristan Wilds, is going to be on the CW remake series of 90210. The season premiere is September 2, and I'm very interested to see how this pans out.

My biggest issue with the show was and continues to be the lack of Black characters. I know we are talking about Beverly Hills and the previous run of the show can get a pass...I guess. But we are in a different era and I expect (maybe foolishly) to see more black teens being a part of these ensemble casts that should be diverse and reflective upon the society we live in.

Like forreal, who is Tristan's character, Dixon Mills, going to be crushing on? Cause I damn sure don't see any sisters up in that piece. So are they going to just reinforce that misinformed stereotype that to be young and affluent means your more likely to date people outside of your race? Is he going to be a "real" black kid or someone very removed from the black experience in America? I need answers...

Ok I'm back on the scene crispy and clean and I'm digging way back to something that caught my eye a few weeks ago from...yes THE BET Awards. I know I'm late as hell, not because there wasn't a lot to chew on, but because I just didn't have the time to post all those damn pics that every other blogger had up and comment on the same hot or not looks that celebs rocked. BUT what I do need to address is something that made me both happy and sad.

Alicia Keys' performance where she took it back to the good ol' days of the 90's.

Can you say HOT?!!! I have to admit, I was most excited about SWV coming out 'cause Weak is still one of my absolute favorite songs EVER! They were the epitome of "hood-girl-group-fab." They had some hits back in the day and Coko opened up the door for the sound that many R&B singers like Lil Mo', Tweet and Mila from 702 honed.

But fast forward to the present, the group has broken up and grown "up" and....COT DAMN! I mean why oh why have their waistlines expanded so much? I know I sound foolish asking that question- as if I somehow expect them to look exactly the same as they did back in the 90's. But I know I'm not the only person that wished they had kept it a lil' more tight over the years.
I know as women it's hard for us to preserve our sexy and keep it together as we age, have children and take care of our families. But sistahs we gotta do better! Cause this right here:

Lee Lee has always been the thick one but Coko was the thinnest member and it was a bit disappointing to see her with that effin' rain coat on, to cover up the surplus of curves she's got going on. Taj has actually done OK but that's 'cause she's got Eddie George at home as a half-ass personal trainer- did ya'll watch their TV One reality show? Kinda cute huh?

Anyhoo I am excited thinking about the possibilities of them resurfacing in some capacity but seeing them on that stage made me reflect and think about me being in their shoes in the future. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pointing and laughing, on the contrary I am making an observation about how tough it is to maintain a tight, sexy physique. It really is a blessing (hard work most times) that keeps us women looking svelt, trim and fresh faced way beyond our prime years.

Some say Aunt Viv looks a bit plastic because of her enhancements and touch-ups but regardless she is still fly.

Nia Long remains cute and sexy and is a certified MILF.

Iman is absolutely beautiful and her grace makes her almost regal.

Vanessa Williams is absolutely gorgeous and is as beautiful as she was when crowned Miss America.

In any case ladies motivate and make sure you jump start a healthy and beautifying lifestyle that can put you on the right track to looking fab way beyond your twenties and thirties.

OK someone please fill me in. Since when was Michelle Obama's image seen as hard and rigid? I mean WTF? Cause everyone I talk to thinks she's absolutely fabulous. Her grace, intelligence, strength, poise and inner strength are inspiring to most women I know including myself.

I am reading "The Audacity of Hope" and the story of Michelle and Barack is endearing. To know the struggles they went through as a couple and how she had to deal with him chasing his political dreams while she was left to take care of the girls alone at times. She is the epitome of a strong, beautiful Black woman and I appreciate that Barack appreciates her and all she symbolizes.

What is it with people these days. Why do Black men and women have to be labeled harsh, hard, rigid and worse just because they don't walk around shuckin' and jivin', smiling and acting like a sambo just so these White conservatives and such can feel "comfortable" with them.

These idiot reports are saying that Michelle appearing on The View yesterday helped "soften" her image. Why on earth would the wife of the first Black presidential nominee have to appear "soft"? I mean really! DO they even understand the courage, insight and determination she has to possess to come this far with her husband?

Say it ain't so!!!! Yeezie got booed? Oh hell naw! It has been reported that this weekend Yeezie was booed at the Boonaroo music festival because concert goers were made to wait for hours until he finally took the stage around 4:30AM.

The Grammy winner walked onto the festival stage nearly two hours past his scheduled 2:45 a.m. performance time Sunday morning and was greeted by bleary-eyed fans' chorus of boos and chants of "Kanye sucks...West was originally set to kick things off at 8:15 p.m., but because he wanted to make the most of his Glow-in-the-Dark Tour's lighting show, the hip-hopster's camp asked to push back the gig to 2:45 a.m. following Pearl Jam's show.

Apparently the stage crew took longer than expected to break down the previous set and set up Ye's.

New favorite song alert!!! Yes lovelies, I am feeling Ms. Solange! I decided is HOTT! I have been jamming to this feel good song for a couple of days now. I have always liked Solange, she is rather talented. For those of you that don;t know she has penned a couple of hit records for Destiny's Child and can dance her butt off! She was also a backup dancer for the group. In my opinion, the video really doesn't sync with the song but I love both concepts for each.
I really hope this project brings her to the forefront.

Barack cinched the nomination (as we all knew he would!) And anyone with common sense is getting ready to be on site when Obama turns that mansion into the BLACK house! I don't want to be too brash but I think everyone agrees that this country is tired of the status quo that McCain represents.

In related news, how sad is it that the democrats had to talk Hillary down? I mean really! I wasn't feeling her speech on Tuesday night, it lacked a true acknowledgement that she had been defeated and it certainly wasn't in good taste that she hadn't praised Barack and all his efforts in winning the candidacy.

On top of that, she was actually ready to continue campaigning until August??? Girl stop. I would give her a hoe sit down...but I'll let her slide on that one.

So this weekend Portland showed up and showed out to support our champion, Barack.

Wow is all he could say which echoed my sentiments and I'm sure everyone else.
What does this mean?

Actually it did reiterate and further define one of the segments of the population that supports him. Of White people, who made up most of the enormous crowd in Oregon, it is the progressive, forward thinking, intelligent and open minded citizens who understand and appreciate the coming of Obama. Not like the red-necked, uneducated, stagnant whites that typically live in middle America...But we knew this already. I'm just glad that this showing helped defeat beliefs that Barack did not have a strong hold on White voters.

Meanwhile Oregon and Kentucky are heading to the polls today with each state holding 51 and 52 delegates respectively. Obama is expected to win Oregon while Clinton is expected to take Kentucky.
Honestly I want Hil to fight till the end. She owes it to her supporters to go all the way to the end with this...Besides it's only making things better for Obama since he is just growing stronger and more diligent in this race waiting for her to officially lose...

Caught Up Profiles-Paul Mooney

I absolutely love to laugh, I love a great comedian but there's something about a comedian that also has profound insight and messages that really stands out and makes them special in my book. One of those comedians is none other than Paul Mooney. Throughout his career, which spans over two decades, he has never shied away from controversial topics and has always spoken provocatively (and truthfully) about race, politics and culture. If any of my NY readers have had a chance to see his show ate Caroline's then you know it is standard for at least one white person to get up and walk out in the middle of his show.

Mooney co-wrote for Richard Pryor for 33 years, Red Foxx's Sanford and Son, Good Times, In Living Color and appeared on The Chapelle Show as Negrodamus. Most people know that for a great deal of his career he used the N word almost religiously as a means to take the power away from it. However after the Michael Richards incident, Mooney publicly vowed to never use the ord again as he was shocked and disturbed by what he saw and heard.

I think Paul Mooney is absolutely brilliant and is an out rightlegend. Since he is so controversial I think he has been somewhat marginalized from mainstream media thus, many people aren't aware of his genius and life long accomplishments and contributions to entertainment. Why oh Why Lord?! Why did my diva have to do it again? Na Na is back to her old tricks. This time reports are saying she did the unthinkable and spat...yes spat on a police officer in Heathrow airport. Allegedly her luggage was lost and she expressed her anger by spitting. I just can't. I love this woman I do and I have defended her when she has bitch slapped folks, threw cell phones and cursed people out...'cause honestly, sometimes that's what a diva... er um bitch... has to do. So for all those folks out of the city who don't know, there is a showcase that occurs monthly I guess that features a headline artist and a bunch of up and comers. The event is called R&B Live and usually takes place at Spotlight Live Karaoke bar. I've attended a couple of them, (see my previous post on my last adventure there) and the latest one featured R & B singing sensation-pause- Ray J and friends....

I'm just saying, these things are one High School talent show after another.

*Sigh* So just when I started to long for a lub muffin fix, he hit us with the internet debut of his new single "Homecoming" featuring Chris Martin. I really like this track.But I was a lil disappointed he put this on the album since it was already a mix tape hit for a while. Ah well...still hot as hell!

Word on the street is Mos Def (I have a love-hate rela with him) will be playing Chuck Berry in the new film Cadillac Records. The movie is now filming in New Jersey and has an all star cast, including Cedric The Entertainer, Jeffery Wright, Gabrielle Union and Adrien Brody.

This is shaping up to be a must see!

Apparently jails across the nation will be poppin' this year. Let me stop...it really is sad and just a damn shame. These folks have kids, fans and an entire community that would love nothing more than for them to not perpetuate negative stereotypes and to be positive role models and inspirations for our youth!

T.I. has pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges – and as the Atlanta rapper waits an entire year for his jail sentence, he is expected to complete at least 1,000 hours of community service.

T.I., born Clifford Harris, was told on Thursday that he must complete at least 1,000 hours of community service, which includes talking to youth groups about the dangers of guns, drugs, and gang activity.

Somehow I don't think having him talk to young people about all the things he has been convicted of is fitting simply because in lieu of this last run in with the law it seems the message and lesson has yet to sink in.

Remy Ma, born Remy Smith, was found guilty of shooting a friend whom she suspected of stealing $3,000 – although she claims it was an accident.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn rapper Papoose has reacted to the conviction, and has confirmed rumors that he and Remy Ma are indeed a couple – even admitting that the two are planning to get married next month.

LEST WE FORGET, An Open Letter To My Sisters Who Are Brave

I have come home from a long stay in Mexico to find – because of the presidential campaign, and especially because of the Obama/Clinton race for the Democratic nomination - a new country existing alongside the old. On any given day we, collectively, become the Goddess of the Three Directions and can look back into the past, look at ourselves just where we are, and take a glance, as well, into the future. It is a space with which I am familiar. When I was born in 1944 my parents lived on a middle Georgia plantation that was owned by a white distant relative, Miss* May Montgomery. She would never admit to this relationship, of course, except to mock it. Told by my parents that several of their children would not eat chicken skin she responded that Of course they would not. No Montgomerys would. My parents and older siblings did everything imaginable for Miss May. They planted and raised her cotton and corn, fed and killed and processed her cattle and hogs, painted her house, patched her roof, ran her dairy, and, among countless other duties and responsibilities my father was her chauffeur, taking her anywhere she wanted to go at any hour of the day or night. She lived in a large white house with green shutters and a green, luxuriant lawn: not quite as large as Tara of Gone With the Wind fame, but in the same style. We lived in a shack without electricity or running water, under a rusty tin roof that let in wind and rain. Miss May went to school as a girl. The school my parents and their neighbors built for us was burned to the ground by local racists who wanted to keep ignorant their competitors in tenant farming. During the Depression, desperate to feed his hardworking family, my father asked for a raise from ten dollars a month to twelve. Miss May responded that she would not pay that amount to a white man and she certainly wouldn't pay it to a nigger. That before she'd pay a nigger that much money she'd milk the dairy cows herself.

When I look back, this is part of what I see. I see the school bus carrying white children, boys and girls, right past me, and my brothers, as we trudge on foot five miles to school. Later, I see my parents struggling to build a school out of discarded army barracks while white students, girls and boys, enjoy a building made of brick. We had no books; we inherited the cast off books that "Jane" and "Dick" had previously used in the all-white school that we were not, as black children, permitted to enter. The year I turned fifty, one of my relatives told me she had started reading my books for children in the library in my home town. I had had no idea – so kept from black people it had been – that such a place existed. To this day knowing my presence was not wanted in the public library when I was a child I am highly uncomfortable in libraries and will rarely, unless I am there t o help build, repair, refurbish or raise money to keep them open, enter their doors.

*During my childhood it was necessary to address all white girls as "Miss" when they reached the age of twelve.
When I joined the freedom movement in Mississippi in my early twenties it was to come to the aid of sharecroppers, like my parents, who had been thrown off the land they'd always known, the plantations, because they attempted to exercise their "democratic" right to vote. I wish I could say white women treated me and other black people a lot better than the men did, but I cannot. It seemed to me then and it seems to me now that white women have copied, all too often, the behavior of their fathers and their brothers, and in the South, especially in Mississippi, and before that, when I worked to register voters in Georgia, the broken bottles thrown at my head were gender free. I made my first white women friends in college; they were women who loved me and were loyal to our friendship, but I understood, as they did, that they were white women and that whiteness mattered. That, for instan ce, at Sarah Lawrence, where I was speedily inducted into the Board of Trustees practically as soon as I graduated, I made my way to the campus for meetings by train, subway and foot, while the other trustees, women and men, all white, made their way by limo. Because, in our country, with its painful history of unspeakable inequality, this is part of what whiteness means. I loved my school for trying to make me feel I mattered to it, but because of my relative poverty I knew I could not.

I am a supporter of Obama because I believe he is the right person to lead the country at this time. He offers a rare opportunity for the country and the world to start over, and to do better. It is a deep sadness to me that many of my feminist white women friends cannot see him. Cannot see what he carries in his being. Cannot hear the fresh choices toward Movement he offers. That they can believe that millions of Americans –black, white, yellow, red and brown - choose Obama over Clinton only because he is a man, and black, feels tragic to me. When I have supported white people, men and women, it was because I thought them the best possible people to do whatever the job required. Nothing else would have occurred to me. If Obama were in any sense mediocre, he would be forgotten by now. He is, in fact, a remarkable human being, not perfect but humanly stunn ing, like King was and like Mandela is. We look at him, as we looked at them, and are glad to be of our species. He is the change America has been trying desperately and for centuries to hide, ignore, kill. The change America must have if we are to convince the rest of the world that we care about people other than our (white) selves. True to my inner Goddess of the Three Directions however, this does not mean I agree with everything Obama stands for. We differ on important points probably because I am older than he is, I am a woman and person of three colors, (African, Native American, European), I was born and raised in the American South, and when I look at the earth's people, after sixty-four years of life, there is not one person I wish to see suffer, no matter what they have done to me or to anyone else; though I understand quite well the place of suffering, often, in human growth. I want a grown-up attitude toward Cuba, for instance, a country and a p eople I love; I want an end to the embargo that has harmed my friends and their children, children who, when I visit Cuba, trustingly turn their faces up for me to kiss. I agree with a teacher of mine, Howard Zinn, that war is as objectionable as cannibalism and slavery; it is beyond obsolete as a means of improving life. I want an end to the on-going war immediately and I want the soldiers to be encouraged to destroy their weapons and to drive themselves out of Iraq. I want the Israeli government to be made accountable for its behavior towards the Palestinians, and I want the people of the United States to cease acting like they don't understand what is going on. All colonization, all occupation, all repression basically looks the same, whoever is doing it. Here our heads cannot remain stuck in the sand; our future depends of our ability to study, to learn, to understand what is in the records and what is before our eyes. But most of all I want someone with the self-confidence to talk to anyone, "enemy" or "friend," and this Obama has shown he can do. It is difficult to understand how one could vote for a person who is afraid to sit and talk to another human being. When you vote you are making someone a proxy for yourself; they are to speak when, and in places, you cannot. But if they find talking to someone else, who looks just like them, human, impossible, then what good is your vote?

It is hard to relate what it feels like to see Mrs. Clinton ( I wish she felt self-assured enough to use her own name) referred to as "a woman" while Barack Obama is always referred to as "a black man." One would think she is just any woman, colorless, race-less, past-less, but she is not. She carries all the history of white womanhood in America in her person; it would be a miracle if we, and the world, did not react to this fact. How dishonest it is, to attempt to make her innocent of her racial inheritance. I can easily imagine Obama sitting down and talking, person to person, with any leader, woman, man, child or common person, in the world, with no baggage of past servitude or race supremacy to mar their talks. I cannot see the same scenario with Mrs. Clinton who would drag into Twenty-First Century American leadership the same image of white privilege and distance from the reality of others' lives that has so marred our country's contacts with the rest of the world. And yes, I would adore having a woman president of the United States. My choice would be Representative Barbara Lee, who alone voted in Congress five years ago not to make war on Iraq. That to me is leadership, morality, and courage; if she had been white I would have cheered just as hard. But she is not running for the highest office in the land, Mrs. Clinton is. And because Mrs. Clinton is a woman and because she may be very good at what she does, many people, including some younger women in my own family, originally favored her over Obama. I understand this, almost. It is because, in my own nieces' case, there is little memory, apparently, of the foundational inequities that still plague people of color and poor whites in this country. Why, even though our family has been here longer than most North American families – and only partly due to the fact that we ha ve Native American genes – we very recently, in my lifetime, secured the right to vote, and only after numbers of people suffered and died for it.

When I offered the word "Womanism" many years ago, it was to give us a tool to use, as feminist women of color, in times like these. These are the moments we can see clearly, and must honor devotedly, our singular path as women of color in the United States. We are not white women and this truth has been ground into us for centuries, often in brutal ways. But neither are we inclined to follow a black person, man or woman, unless they demonstrate considerable courage, intelligence, compassion and substance. I am delighted that so many women of color support Barack Obama -and genuinely proud of the many young and old white women and men who do. Imagine, if he wins the presidency we will have not one but three black women in the White House; one tall, two somewhat shorter; none of them carrying the washing in and out of the back door. The bottom line for most of u s is: With whom do we have a better chance of surviving the madness and fear we are presently enduring, and with whom do we wish to set off on a journey of new possibility? In other words, as the Hopi elders would say: Who do we want in the boat with us as we head for the rapids? Who is likely to know how best to share the meager garden produce and water? We are advised by the Hopi elders to celebrate this time, whatever its adversities. We have come a long way, Sisters, and we are up to the challenges of our time. One of which is to build alliances based not on race, ethnicity, color, nationality, sexual preference or gender, but on Truth. Celebrate our journey. Enjoy the miracle we are witnessing. Do not stress over its outcome. Even if Obama becomes president, our country is in such ruin it may well be beyond his power to lead us toward rehabilitation. If he is elected however, we must, individually and coll ectively, as citizens of the planet, insist on helping him do the best job that can be done; more, we must insist that he demand this of us. It is a blessing that our mothers taught us not to fear hard work. Know, as the Hopi elders declare: The river has its destination. And remember, as poet June Jordan and Sweet Honey in the Rock never tired of telling us: We are the ones we have been waiting for.

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said Wednesday night that text messages indicating he had a sexual affair with his chief of staff in 2002 and 2003 were "profoundly embarrassing" and "reflect a very difficult period in my personal life."

The mayor's prepared statement was released by his office after a report surfaced that text messages show he had an intimate relationship with Chief of Staff Christine Beatty, 37, who has been Kilpatrick's friend since they were classmates at Cass Tech.

This morning, political consultants began digesting reports, trying to read the fallout on the city's political establishment now that text messages contradict what Kilpatrick and his chief of staff said under oath about the relationship between them.

Teyana Taylor (remember her from Sweet 16?) has a new song and video called Google Me Baby. Now I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I do think she has talent and has an absolutely adorable style. So it's that time of year again, colleges and universities are making their bids for star athletes and the number one pick for college football in the U.S. is Terelle Pryor. At 6'5 and 235 lbs, he has decided on Ohio State as his school of choice.

Pryor was concerned about early playing time at Ohio State because the Buckeyes boast all-conference quarterback Todd Boeckman, but the overall fit in Columbus just felt better.

"I can't see myself sitting and not playing, that's the tough part," Pryor said. "I certainly don't want to redshirt. But being brought along a little slowly might be the best thing for me in the long run, and I have to look at that. I'm not sure if being thrown to the wolves and starting from Day One would be best for me. I know college is a big step up and there's a lot to learn."

Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders and a bright future ahead of him...I know there are hizoes all over the state of Ohio getting ready for their come up this fall...Jesus be a condom and some birth control pills!

Barack is the TRUTH!, Got Me Going

So they thought they had our man, with all this talk and uproar over Rev. Wright's comments on race and Obama's understanding and realization of it vs. Hillary's. Honestly we all knew there would come a time when Obama would have to speak on the dynamics of race, religion and the history of injustice in America. His most recent speech is evident that he is a true leader and visionary. His complex and unique background paired with his intelligence and innate sense of what it takes to unify and build couldn't be more visible. If you missed it, check out the sermon that has so many people buzzing.

In a speech today Barack commented on black anger, white resentment and the racial divide in America...

"The anger is real," he said. "It is powerful, and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races."

How fly is this guy? Having accomplished an unbelievable amount of success all before the age of 25, he seems to be well on his way to becoming a well respected, well rounded athlete and business man. He is constantly finding new ways to brand himself.
Vogue, a magazine known to be extremely selective and exclusive when choosing covers has only featured two other men, George Clooney and Richard Gere.
Paired with model Giselle Bundchen, the Cleveland cavaliers star is featured in the April issue annually devoted to size and shape.

Not sure how I'm feeling about the pairing of the two, but regardless this is a good look!

Baby Berry is finally here!!!!! Is anyone else out there just as excited as me?
People magazine has confirmed Halle Berry gave birth to a 7lb 4 oz baby girl on Sunday at 10am.

No reports on the name but I can't wait to see how beautiful she is!

Let's just start off with the most pressing of questions I have on this week's shaninigans....

When, where and how did this happen? I'm talking specifically about the ridiculousness that is Co Co. She exhausts me beyond belief! Where did she come from? Why does she look like that? What exactly is her bra size? I need answers people! The worst part about it is I actually fux with Ice-T. I really feel his transition from pimp/gangsta rapper to actor. It doesn't hurt that I am a Law and Order SVU stan! I'm not hating on their love affair 'cause it seems to be working out better than most Holly weird unions, but dammit if this sh*t doesn't irk the hell outta me!

Fat Joe had an album release party this week. Now I'm just tryna understand where exactly did he go wrong? I mean this formula of coming out with a R&B hook every time he debuts an album is getting rather stale. Don't get me wrong I love Joey Crack, which is all the more reason why I need him to do better. Is he gonna be one of those guys that is still rapping at the status quo level well into his fourties?

Damaged, Anything Black is anything BUT!

The lovely ladies of Danity Kane premiered their new video for Damaged, the first single off their sophmore album, Welcome To The Dollhouse yesterday on TRL. Now I am a huge fan of these girls mainly because they are just so damn likeable. From watching them since the beginning on MTB, I feel as if we've seen them grow right before our eyes and I really appreciate their honesty, passion and drive. I hope they do well with this new effort.

As far as this new album I have to be honest from what I've heard I'm a bit skeptical. I'm not sure if this pop, upbeat trend they are on will work in their favor. The new single is cool, not crazy about it but it's definitely solid. The video is also cool, not crazy about the choreography...and the end with them in the hospital room...kinda lame, but ah well.

BTW, how many of ya'll got goosebumps last week when Ankh Ra was trying to get Dawn to break through while singing? I luuuub that man with his zesty self!!!!

Now these sites offer clever, dautingly true and hilarious commentary on general things both groups have an affinity for. In my opnion they aren't off color, degrading, shameful or in any way disrespectful to either group. It seems as if these are written by African American bloggers as well which definitely influences how the posts are crafted and percieved. BUT, of course someone had to take it too far!

A new site has surfaced that is very similar in look and feel called anything black and that ish is about two seconds from a Don Imus scenario! I really do think it's written by YT folks which by virtue makes it all kinds of wrong. Then the posts are just stereotypical, not well written and down right offensive. For example:

A post on Church:

In the Black Community Church is not just a place to worship God. But a place to gossip about thy neighbor, socialize, mingle with the opposite sex, sing without embarrassing yourself, and out dress your fellow Negro. Contrary to White Churches, it is a normal occurrence to see women with their hands in the air crying. They are not in pain, they have just caught the Holy Ghost. If you hear a woman yell, “Oh Lord, or Amen” while the Reverend is preaching his interpretation of the Bible, this means the Reverend mentioned something that the lady can relate to her life, which normally has something to do with drama.

A post on Bluetooth:

Black people generally have big mouths and love to chat on a regular basis, to other people and themselves. With the recent invention of new technology called “Bluetooth” the black individual has finally figured out to do both of these tasks at the same time. Black people love wearing their Bluetooth headsets in public, not only when driving, but also when walking around aimlessly.

Are ya'll not getting angry by the second? Let's make a point to rase a stink about this site and make sure this utter ignorance is called out and recognized as pure nonsense!!!!

One of television's finest shows, actually what many deem as the best show on T.V., The Wire, came to an end Sunday night. Wow can we just say the cycle continues? It was real, it was the truth and it was goooood! I must admit, I am one to never be satisfied and I think it's nearly impossible to walk away totally fulfilled after an epic series like The Wire ends. With so many issues and events happening I thought they did a good job of tying up the loose ends and leaving us with ideas and a tangible outlook on how the streets and characters of Bmore will carry on.

How crazy was it when you saw the Dukie was becoming a fein? AHHHHHH I nearly died on my couch!!! A 14/15 year old boy living on the streets, shooting up...DAYUM!!!! Broke my heart!

I was glad slim man took Cheese out! He was a dumb ass backstabber and was getting too big for his britches. He was bound to get done in anyway.

How funny was it when Marlo tipped outta that shi shi foo foo party and hit the streets again. That negro ain't gonna ever learn huh? He just ain't cut out to be straight partly cause he is not smart or savvy enough to be a legit business man.

So Michael is the new Omar? Another sad ending cause he had so much potential but his was another sad story as well and it seems he was doomed for a life of crime as well.

I think it was unfair that McNulty and Freeman had to resign but Marlo gets off scott free! I guess it was the only decision that showed they have no tolerance for falsifying evidence and lying.

What I like about The Wire is that it brings to life the harsh realities of drugs, politics, money and the streets in a believable way. So long to Sunday nights in Bmore....The Wire, the movie...perhaps? I say yes!

I have been swamped at work and had no time to give ya'll a proper update, but alas I'm back on the scene crispy and clean!

I'm so disgusted ya'll! Well...maybe I'm just a hater...but in any case Beyonce is set to star in a Thriller called Obsession with none other than Idris Elba. I mean Dayum....how can you pair up that monotone southern drawl with the sexy London accent of Idris? Sh*t just ain't right! I hear she is also going to executive produce this with her Dad. How much ya'll wanna bet Matthew is going to try and find someway to tie in Solange and Trinity 5' 7 into this whole shananigan? This already looks like it's meant to be a straight to DVD classic....

And the hits keep coming... If anyone saw that travesty of a movie on Lifetime about Fantasia, you know that is was a pure testament to the fact that Fanny just can't act! I mean when you can't even play yourself....that says something. But let me keep it real, I didn't see her in the Color Purple on Broadway, I saw when it when it debuted, but from all accounts I hear she killed it. Oprah Winfrey has tapped her to reprise her role as Celie in a movie musical adaptation of the film. Fanny wants to work on her music, so the media mogul said she will wait on her to finish before starting filming. I mean that says something, she must have really been great! This should be interesting and I actually have a good feeling about it.

In other news...
The Game will be starting up again with new episodes starting on March 23rd. I can't freaking wait to see what becomes of Melanie and Derwin.

MTV has reportedly banned Gnarls Barkley's newest video and it's not due to profanity or obscenity of any kind. Actually the video has failed the Harding Test which monitors strobe effects in video content to make sure the images don’t set off seizures. One half of the duo, Danger Mouse says:

“I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but we’re having issues. I think the video is cool. It works for me. But I’m not necessarily that easily seasick,” Danger Mouse told Billboard magazine, which first reported the temporary ban. “We can’t predict how people are going to interpret it.”

Word is they are working on retooling it so the video can be played on air.

Hey Lovelies!
So I have been on the Master Cleanse since Saturday and let me tell you...I am sooo over this damn thing!

So for those of you not familiar basically the master cleanse consists of drinking a laxative tea at night, a quart of salt water in the morning and drink about 64 ounces of a mixture made up on lemons, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Your supposed to do this for about 10-12 days. Whew child, I am on day 5 and can't wait to be done with this here mess. I have already determined I'm not going to full 10 days, I have a dinner date with a friend on Saturday so in order to be ready to eat real, solid food by them I'm starting to wean off this tomorrow by drinking OJ and Tomato soup. I'll move onto fruit Friday and should be good by Saturday for some soup, salad and maybe a lite fish dish. This ain't for the weak at heart so PLEASE don't attempt unless you are serious about cleansing. I'll let you know my results next week...

Ok sometimes I just don't understand. Please somebody, anybody give me a clue! Why o Why do our rappers that we love so much, defend so much and support so much, slap us in our faces by committing ridiculously stupid criminal acts?!?! I mean I know they are human too and are allowed to make mistakes, but honestly they need to feel a bit more obligated to ack...yes ack right! Doing what you love is a privilege and being able to share it with the world is a blessing.

I mean really, is it that serious? Are you that hard up for cash that you need to be transporting drugs? Please somebody offer a reason why traveling with a pharmacy is needed! Weezy is an even bigger disappointment 'cause he is the hottest right now. With all his success there is no reason for him to get caught out there like he's Frank Lucas or some damn body!

Authorities said that Harris, 27, provided his bodyguard $12,000 to buy the weapons, which Harris is not allowed to own because he is a convicted felon. Court documents said Harris was convicted on felony drug charges in 1998, and a federal affidavit said he has been arrested on gun charges in the past.

With substantial acting gigs under his belt, a rising career in music and being placed on Hip Hops most highest paid rappers list- he was on his way to making a real mark in the industry. Why o Why would he buy guns illegally?

Hello Lovelies! New York Fashion Week was a couple of weeks ago and the designs seen on the runways of Bryant park will soon make their way to department stores and retailers nationwide. I want to make sure all you fashionistas are in the know and ready to slip on the trendiest of garments and step out this fall looking absolutely fab!

I was able to interview one of the blogosphere's premiere fashionistas, Claire Sulmers, of The Fashion Bomb. She gave me the lowdown on her experience at Fashion Week and her predictions on what will be the falls must have items, colors and designs.

Don't know about Claire or The Fashion Bomb? What rock have you been hiding under? After graduating from Harvard in 2003,majoring in French and minoring in African American studies, she set out on a very long intern track, working at Upscale, NEW YORK and Newsweek magazines. Sheis currently a writer for a women's interest magazine and freelances writing health articles for Essence and fashion and beauty stories forHeart and Soul.Her ultimate career goals are to move to Paris and work at FrenchVogue OR become Editor-In-Chief of the next Suede Magazine. She started her blog, The Fashion Bomb, in August of 2006 and has built it into a well known spot for updates on the latest fashion trends and finding out how to affordably translate the styles we see on the red carpet into wearable items of our own.

What shows did you attend during Fashion Week?
I went to Baby Phat, Sean John, Tracy Reese, Stephen Burrows, Custo Barcelona, Nanette Lepore, Mara Hoffman, Araks, Chris Han, BCBG Max Azria, Twinkle by Wenland, Erin Fetherston, Tadashi Shoji and Reem Accra.

What was your favorite line and why?
I loved Tracy Reese for her use of color, mixing of fabrics and proportions, and pretty silhouettes. I was pleasantly surprised by Tadashi Shoji. His line focuses on beautifully draped evening gowns. They were well made and impeccably tailored. The most wearable line would have to be Mara Hoffman. I loved her wool jackets, chunky knits, and eye catching separates.

What if any can you tell are the next big "it" colors:
Definitely chartreuse and plum. I can't tell you how many times I saw that combination on the runway. Green and purple can be seen as fall colors, but chartreuse is kind of a neon, more yellow take on green, and plum is a deeper color. Both are very rich, look very expensive; they're fall colors, yet they stand out and pop in most situations.

What were some of the overarching themes you saw in women's fashion that we should be on the look out for?
I saw a return of modesty. Very 50's silhouettes, sort've a working girl feel. Lots of sheath dresses, pencil skirts. I couldn't say anything was necessarily blatantly 'sexy.' I saw a lot of 'secretary' wear, which managed to be sophisticated but not overly dowdy.

Once these themes and designs trickle down to department and retail stores which do you think will offer the best option for the average woman's budget. i.e. H& M, Gap, Banana Republic, J Crew etc.
I think Banana Republic already focuses on a 'working girls' ideals in terms of their dress offerings and basics. J. Crew will probably champion the incorporation of great colors and patterns into the styles. H&M always does a great job of producing runway copies almost immediately.

What are some trends that males should be on the lookout for?
I only went to one male show, but I'd say that men should look out for cropped jackets and skinny pants. Men's fashion is going a little bit more avant garde. I'd also say that men will start to embrace more luxurious fabrics like cashmere, leather, and fur; and that they won't shy away from embellishments like sequins, grommets, or studs.

Which designer surprised you the most/took the most risks?
I can't say anyone really shocked me. Chris Han took a step outside the box a bit by offering lots of sheer fabrics in fall shapes; lots of see through sweaters and long sleeve shirts worn under jackets which is a bit risque given the ho-hum fare that characterized most runways.

Were you able to ascertain the new trends for shoes and boots? What are they?
Spectator shoes are still in. I saw a few instances of combat boots; lace up calf length boots that give off a sort of military feel. I also saw lots of high ankle boots. Spectator shoes and ankle boots are still in, but now I see the addition of mid length boots that enter the area between short and knee high with lace up details.

Describe how strong the presence of Blacks and people of color was on the runways?
I definitely saw an increase in diversity on the runway. It was a rarity not to see at least one black, Asian, or Hispanic model in a show. I was most surprised to see representations in shows that have typically been lambasted for lacking ethnic models, like Calvin Klein. It seems as if the words of people like Cathy Horyn of the New York Times and Bethann Hardison are being heard. I'm glad the issue of diversity was brought to their attention, and I'm glad designers are making strides to change.

Who would you pick to design your dream red carpet gown?
I loved Gucci' Spring 2008 line, and the brand itself, so I'd probably go with them as a first pick. If not Gucci, Zac Posen sends some very interesting creations down the red carpet. If I were going to a Music Awards show, I'd definitely wear a saucy Cavalli creation; something more upscale, perhaps an Oscar de la Renta.

So I know I'm mad late, but I attended Rip The Runway last week to cover the event for Creme Magazine, a hot e-mag I write for. Below are the pics I was able to snap while I was on the red carpet.

Laurie Ann looked very interesting in that feather ensemble. She is the prime example of someone who is always doing too much. So this is the snitch with her ass out in my baby daddy's video. Caught Up Profiles- Dr. Cornel West

Cornel West is absolutely one of my biggest contemporary heroes. He is someone that clearly defines achievement, progressive thinking, awareness and he possesses true love and a sincere understanding of the Black experience in America. I was first introduced to him in college when I had to read his book Race Matters. Now if any of you are familiar with Mr. West, you know that a dictionary needs to always be on hand when perusing through the pages of anything he's written. Listening to him speak sometimes gives me goosebumps. His passion, conviction, honesty and heightened sense of knowledge and intelligence on the issues is nothing short of amazing!

West was born in 1953 in Tulsa Oklahoma. At age 17, he enrolled in Harvard University where he studied Philosophy, New Eastern Languages and civilization. In three years he graduated magna cum laude and went onto Princeton University. He eventually accepted an appointment as professor of African-American studies at Harvard University, with a joint appointment at the Divinity School. West taught one of the university's most popular courses, an introductory class on African-American studies.

West, got into a dispute with Harvard president Lawrence Summer and consequently left the institution and has been at Princeton ever since. He describes himself as a "non-Marxist socialist" (partly due to Marx's opposition to religion) and serves as honorary chair of the Democratic Socialists of America, which he has described as "the first multiracial, socialist organization close enough to my politics that I could join". He also described himself as a "radical democrat, suspicious of all forms of authority".

I'm sure many of you have seen him on the MTV promos this past week, and they are nothing short of hilarious, thought provoking and poignant!

I luuuub this man! He is the truth and his effect and influence on present day society is a blessing and inspiration to us all. He has a certain talent in dissecting American history, politics and ideals then extracting the undeniable truth out of them in extremely compelling ways. West is a widely cited scholar and has been involved with projects such as the Million Man March, Russell Simmons' Hip Hop Summit and was advisor to Democratic Presidential Candidate Bill Bradley.

It's almost as bad as bitchassness, the other major erosion of our society. Can someone please tell me who is allowing Shar to sneak into these swag lounges and eat up all the chex mix? She ain't had not a movie, show, song, sex tape-nothing that has given her an ounce of importance.
